La Esmerelda is owned by Argemiro De Jesus Restrepo who has inherited the 3.2ha farm from his Father and before that it was his Grandfathers. He now live on the farm with his wife Gloria Ines Carmen and his daughter where they have now been for 21 years.
In total on the farm there are 14,000 trees with shade trees spread amongst them. Argemiro was taught the value of hard work and patienceand has slowly worked on creating specialty coffee from hsi farm with careful attention and dedication to the trees and land. They use some chemicals to help battle la broca and leaf rust on the farm.
During the harvest they have extra help to collect the cherry and then will pulp the coffee before it is then fermented for 20 hours without water. After this the coffee is then dried in a parabolic drier for 10 -14 days.
For being part of the mirco-lot program they will receive a payment on delivery of the coffee and then a premium payment of 60% of the remaining value after the sale of the coffee.
